Preparations complete to run census

Preparations are complete to carry out a census in Iraq, the Iraqi Planning Minister Ali Baban said on Sunday. “We are in a good condition to run the census on October 24, 2010,” Minister Baban said. He explained that political difficulties in Iraq will not affect the census. “The census is a commitment of the Iraqi state, not of a government or official,” Baban noted. He referred to some politicians’ objections to carrying out the census, and said that these objections do not represent the public opinion in Iraq.
A census was supposed to take place in Iraq in 2007, but it was postponed to 2009, then to 2010.
