What it means to me to be an Assyrian
Abbey Mikha 28-08-2010
Abbey was born in Lebanon near the Assyrian town Ksara in Zahle in May of 1981. She lived in Lebanon for five years before moving to Germany with her family. Abbey lived separated from the Assyrian community in the German town of Hostenbach for another five years. Then she moved with her family to Toronto Canada in 1990. This is where she was introduced to the Assyrian community. Abbey enjoyed Assyrian music from a young age and for most of her life she tried to improve her knowledge of the Assyrian language by listening to Assyrian folklore songs, writing, memorizing, and singing them. Abbey has always been interested in Assyrian history and started reading about it in the Bible. In high-school she started reading other kinds of books by Henry Layard and others about the Assyrians. Abbey is currently majoring in Child Psychology, and plans on being a teacher, writer and an activist in the Assyrian community.
